Sumaiya, who’s dream was being a BCS admin cadre after completing graduation from Dhaka University, met a tragic death after being victimised of family violence for carrying out her studies.
Sumaiya, daughter of Siddiqur Rahman of Bolaripara area of the district, was reportedly tortured to death at her in-law’s house in Harishpur village of Sadar upazila on Monday.
Her dream was to pass the BCS exam and become an admin officer to help her husband and her family, said victim’s mother Nuzhat Sultana.
After finishing the master’s exam, Sumaiya was preparing herself. The result of her master final exam is to be released on Wednesday.
However, she met a tragic death being victimised by family members of her in-law’s house for carrying out her studies.
On April 14, 2019, Sumaiya married unemployed Mostaq of Harishpur village following a relationship, according to victim’s family members.
After the marriage, Mostaq and her family members obstructed her for several times to stop her study.
Later, Sumaiya’s father Siddiqur Rahman, who was a renowned Islamic speaker, used to bear her daughter’s education and the needs of the unemployed son-in-law Mostaq.
The pressure of the son-in-law continued even after the death of Siddiqur Rahman about 8 months ago.
Along with bearing expense of family, Nuzhat Sultana was struggling to meet the needs of her son-in-law. For this reason, Sumaiya was taking preparation for a job.
But her unemployed husband Mostaq did not want to accept it. Sumaiya was repeatedly tortured by Mostaq and his family members.
She was also tortured by her husband on Monday morning.
As, Sumaiya lost her conscious at one stage of torture, they left her at Natore Sadar Hospital.
Later, they informed to Sumaiya’s family that she had committed suicide, said Sumaiya’s mother.
At first, no party agreed to file a case in this incident.
In this situation, police recorded a UD case and handed over the body to her mother after autopsy investigation.
In the afternoon Sumaiya was buried in the city’s Garikhana graveyard.
Meanwhile, Natore Superintendent of Police Liton Kumar Saha visited the spot and spoke to the family of the deceased when he became suspicious.
Later, Sumaiya’s mother filed a murder case against Mostaq and his four family members around 1am on Tuesday.
Police arrested Mostaq’s mother Syeda Maleka and sister Zakia Yasmin Juthi.
Mostaq and his mother Zakir Hossain remain absconding after the incident.
The SP said that police is conducting drive to arrest rest accused.
