A tribunal in Dhaka has accepted the charge sheet against Md Mojnu, the lone accused in a case filed over the rape of a Dhaka University student in the capital’s Kurmitola area.
Judge Begum Mosammat Quamrunnahar of the 7th Tribunal for Prevention of Women and Children Repression passed the order in presence of the accused after scrutinising the case dockets and other relevant documents on Sunday.
The tribunal also set August 26 for the hearing of charge framing against Mojnu in the case.
The judge directed the jail authorities to produce Majnu before it on the scheduled date.
On March 16, Detective Branch Inspector Abu Bakar Siddique, also the investigation officer (IO) of the case, submitted the charge sheet against Majnu to the Chief Metropolitan Magistrate’s Court in Dhaka.
The IO also brought charges of assaulting and snatching mobile phone, wristwatch and money from the victim’s possession.
On January 5, a second year student of DU was raped in Kurmitola after she mistakenly got off a bus there around 7:00 pm on her way to a friend’s house at Shewra.
The rape survivor’s father filed a case with Cantonment police station over the incident, which was transferred to the DB police on January 6.
On January 8, the Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) arrested Mojnu in the capital’s Shewra rail crossing area.
On January 16, Mojnu gave a statement before a Dhaka court confessing his involvement in the crime.
