The High Court on Sunday asked the government to submit a list of officials involved in the proposal of the Jamuna River narrowing project, by June 11.
A bench of Justice Farah Mahbub and Justice Muhammad Mahbub Ul Islam also directed the government to submit all the papers of the project by the day.
The bench issued the directive after hearing a writ petition filed by Human Rights and Peace for Bangladesh in the public interest.
The court adjourned the hearing of the petition till June 11.
Writ petitioner’s lawyer Manzill Murshid said that the petition was filed, referring to a newspaper report published on March 11.The report stated that the Bangladesh Water Development Board undertook the project to reduce the width of the Jamuna river to 6.5 kilometres from 15 kilometres and the move was ‘unscientific and absurd.’
