Classroom activities in the government primary schools across Bangladesh will remain closed for four days between Monday and Thursday due to the ongoing heatwave.
The primary and mass education ministry announced the decision on Sunday.
A press release issued by the ministry said that the decision was taken for the protection of health of the students.
The Bangladesh Meteorological Department’s morning bulletin said that a severe heatwave was sweeping over the districts of Rajshahi, Naogaon, Nilphamari and Dinajpur and it was likely to continue.
Besides, it said, a mild to moderate heatwave is sweeping over Dhaka, Mymensingh, Khulna and Barishal divisions, the rest of Rangpur and Rajshahi divisions, and the districts of Moulvibazar, Chandpur and Noakhali.
Day and night temperatures may remain nearly unchanged over the country, the bulletin said.
The prevailing heatwave in the country is likely to continue for the next 72 hours.
