The government on Wednesday decided to purchase 30,000 tonnes of muriate of potash from Russia with per tonne costing $342.
The cabinet committee on government purchase in a meeting on the day approved a proposal from the Bangladesh Agricultural Development Corporation in this regard
Additional secretary Sayed Mahbub Khan of the cabinet division told reporters that the import would be made under a government-to-government deal.
JSC Foreign Economic Corporation ‘Prodintorg’ will supply the chemical fertilizer, he said.
The meeting was presided over the by finance minister AHM Mustafa Kamal.
In the past month, BADC signed a deal with Prodintorg to import 1.80 lakh tonnes of MoP in FY24.
The deal was signed on June 1 in Russian capital Moscow.
The war between Russia and Ukraine that began in February 2022 hampered Bangladesh’s import of fertilizer from Russia.
