Bangladesh government on Tuesday gave incentive to the teachers and staff under the Monthly Pay Order system.

The amount of the incentive will be five per cent of the individuals’ basic salary.

The Finance Division under the finance ministry issued a letter in this regard in the afternoon and sent it to the education ministry, said the division deputy secretary Mohammad Golam Kabir.

The letter said that the teachers and staff under the MPO would get ‘special facility’ from July 1.

It said that the incentive would be five per cent of their basic salary but the amount would not be less than Tk 1,000.

The letter said that the incentive would be calculated on the basis of their basic salary on July 1 every year.

The order came at a time when secondary level teachers under MPO had been continuing countrywide strike for indefinite period. Tuesday was the third day of their strike.

The teachers, under the banner of the Bangladesh Teachers’ Association, vowed to continue their movement demanding the nationalisation of their jobs to end discrimination against non-government teachers.
