The main opposition Bangladesh Nationalist Party has said that they had changed the venue of their Monday’s Dhaka rally venue and now fixed Suhrwardy Udyan to hold the party programme.
The rally will be held protesting at attacks on the party leaders and activists during their Saturday sit-in programmes at Dhaka entry points and to press home their one-point demand for resignation of the government and holding the next general election under a neutral government.
The BNP, in a press release signed by the party senior joint secretary general Ruhul Kabir Rizvi, said that the party had changed the Monday’s Dhaka rally venue.
‘The rally was scheduled to be held at in front of the party central office at Naya Paltan. The venue has been changed and now the rally will be held at Suhrwardy Udyan in Dhaka at 3:00pm on July 31, 2023 (Monday),’ the release read.
BNP secretary general Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir will address the rally as the chief guest.
The main opposition party will also hold rallies in all the metropolitan cities and district towns of the country on Monday.
Besides, Ganatantra Mancha, an alliance of six political parties, is holding a rally at Purana Paltan intersection from 11:00am.
They will also hold district-level rallies and processions on Tuesday.
Jatiyatabadi Samamana Jote and Labour Party will also hold a rally in front of Al-Raji Complex at Purana Paltan in Dhaka on Monday.
The ruling Awami League also asked its party leaders and activists to stay at thanas and wards in Dhaka to ‘prevent any violence’.
‘Our leaders and activists have been instructed to keep presence in respective ward and thana areas on Monday to ensure peace,’ Dhaka south city AL office secretary Reaz Uddin Reaz told New Age.
