Bangladesh has recorded one Nipah virus infection case in the new year with the patient dead.
The patient was diagnosed with the infection in January 2023, sources said.
It is also learnt that three other persons tested positive for Nipah in 2022 and two of them died.
IEDCR director at a programme confirmed the fatality on Wednesday.
Nipah virus, named scientifically Nipah henipavirus, is a bat-borne virus causing infection in humans and other animals and marked by high mortality rate.
The virus infection can be diagnosed with clinical history at acute and convalescent phase.
