Rail communications between Dhaka and rest of Bangladesh remained halted since Sunday morning as a section of contractual workers of the Bangladesh Railway blocked the rail line at FDC crossing in Tejgaon area in Dhaka.
Under the banner of Bangladesh Railway Temporary Workers, the workers demanded permanent jobs and protested at outsourcing new temporary workers.
They blocked the rail track at about 10:00am halting the rail communications connecting Dhaka with the rest of the country.
The workers said that the railway authorities promised them to make their jobs permanent within three to four years, but they did not keep their words.
They alleged that the railway authorities were now trying to outsource new workers instead of making their jobs permanent.
All trains on Dhaka routes closed at that time, said railway additional director general for operation, Sardar Shahadat Ali.
He told New Age at about 1:00pm that protesting workers still kept the rail track blocked.
‘We are going to the spot to negotiate with the workers,’ he added.
