Trinamool Congress MLA Samaresh Das passed away at a Kolkata hospital where he had tested positive for coronavirus. The Trinamool Congress MLA died on Monday morning.
MLA Samaresh Das had tested positive for coronavirus at the AMRI hospital. Das became the second Trinamool MLA to die of coronavirus in Bengal.
Samaresh Das was an MLA from Egra Assembly constituency in East Midnapore district of West Bengal.
In a tweet on Monday morning, Trinamool Congress chief and West Bengal CM Mamata Banerjee condoled the death of MLA Samaresh Das.
“I am deeply saddened by the passing of East Midnapore MLA Samaresh Das. Samaresh Das’ demise leaves an irreparable void in Bengal politics. I express my solidarity with the family of Samaresh Das,” said Mamata Banerjee.
Earlier, Trinamool leader Tamanash Ghosh had also succumbed to the virus. Both were suffering from comorbidities along with coronavirus and were taken to hospitals for treatment.
West Bengal has been recording over 3,000 new cases of coronavirus every day over the past few days. West Bengal now has over 1.15 lakh coronavirus cases in total.
