A Khulna court on Monday sentenced three people, including victim’s husband, to death for killing a housewife named Tumpa Mandal in 2016.

The condemned convicts are Prosenjit Gaine, husband of the victim, Animesh Gaine and Biplab Kanti Mandal. Animesh Gaine and Biplab Kanti Mandal, who are absconding.

The court also fined them Tk 45,000 each.

Khulna District and Sessions Judges’ Court Judge Mashiur Rahman Chowdhury handed down the verdict and acquitted a man as allegation brought against him could not be proved.

According to the case statement, the convicts strangled Tumpa to death and left her body at Gangrail River of Badurgacha village under Dumuria upazila in Khulna on October 7, 2016.

Later, victim’s brother Samit Mandal filed a murder case against them with Dumuria Police Station in this connection.
