A traffic police constable was killed after a microbus hit him in front of Shaheed Suhrawardy Medical College and Hospital of the capital’s Sher-E-Bangla Nagar area on Sunday morning.

The deceased was identified as Helal, 50, hailing from Kaliakair Police Station of Gazipur. He was working in Mohammadpur zone of Traffic Tejagaon division.

Deputy Commissioner (DC) of Traffic Tejgaon Division Shahed Al Masud said that the speedy microbus hit Helal while he was performing on his duty on the road at 11:00am in the area, leaving him injured.

Later, the injured were taken to Dhaka Medical College and Hospital (DMCH) where he succumbed to his injuries at 11:45am while undergoing treatment, he said.

He added that the killer microbus could not be apprehended immediately. The body has been kept in the hospital morgue for an autopsy.
