Three members of the same family were electrocuted and a minor child was injured in Latifpur area under Gazipur union of Khaliajuri upazila of Netrokona on Wednesday afternoon.

The deceased were identified as Ayibul Mia, 48, son of Kitab Ali, his wife Abeda Akter, 40 and their daughter Pingky Akter, 22 of the area.

Police sources said Ayibul came in touch with a live wire while he was watering an under-construction building at 1:45 pm. At one stage, Ayibul’s wife Abeda and his daughter pinky saw the matter and rushed to save Ayibul and they also came in contact with the live electric wire, leaving them dead on the spot and Ayibul’s minor daughter injured.

Mojibur Rahman, officer-in-charge (OC) of Khaliajuri Police Station, confirmed the matter.

Following the incident, a pall of gloom descended in the area and many people rushed to their house to see the dead bodies.

Khaliajuri Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) AHM Ariful Islam said the matter is very tragic. The upazila administration will provide financial assistance for the burial of the victim’s family.
