Anti-Terrorism Unit of police arrested a member of the banned militant group Ansarullah Bangla Team during a raid at Shimulia village in Shibalay upazila of Manikganj on Sunday night.

The arrestee was identified as Md Shamim, 27, son of Shahjahan Ali of the area.

He had been disseminating extremism-provoking content on social media using fake IDs. He is involved in various conspiracies against the country through technology training, Md Firoj Kabir, officer-in-charge (OC) of Shibalaya Police Station, said.

On the basis of such information, a special team of anti-terrorism unit of the police with the help of Shibalaya police conducted an operation in Shimulia area of ​​the upazila and arrested him along with extremist books and brought to the police station, he said.

The OC also said that Shamim is currently in the custody of the anti-terrorism unit of the police. A case has been filed against him under Anti-Terrorism Act at the police station. He will be taken to court on Monday afternoon after seeking for a 10-day remand.
