Terming Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina a businesswoman, planner and visionary greater than others, Bashundhara Group Chairman Ahmed Akbar Sobhan said her (premier) timely steps, including one for real estate sector, have placed the country at the peak of socioeconomic development.

As the previous Detailed Area Plan (DAP) was faulty and designed to destroy the real estate sector and the country’s economy, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina ordered a high-powered committee to review it, he added.

He said “Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina is a bigger businesswoman, planner and farsighted. Had she not taken timely measures, the real estate sector would have ruined.”

Bashundhara Group Chairman made the remarks while addressing a seminar titled “Detailed Area Plan (2016-2035)” organised at Pan Pacific Sonargaon Hotel in the capital on Saturday.

LGRD minister and DAP Review Committee convener Tajul Islam presided over the programme.

Speaking on the occasion, Bashundhara Group Chairman Ahmed Akbar Sobhan said DAP should be implemented immediately for bringing dynamism in real estate sector which contributes 20 percent to the country’s GDP.

Real estate sector should be patronised for creating employment in the country as Covid-19 pandemic has turned many people jobless, he opined.

He said around 471 sectors and 20,000 industries are dependent upon real estate sector

Ahmed Akbar Sobhan called upon the government to appoint Rajuk chairman for at least three years so that he or she can gather experience and contribute to the development of the field.

Citing previous incidents, he said some persons, who appointed as Rajuk chairmen, were promoted as secretaries within a few months and they could not played due role.
