Noted director and freedom fighter Saidul Anam Tutul’s last film ‘Kalbela’ was released in theatres on Friday three years after his death.
The movie has been released in different cinema halls including, Star Cineplexes, Blockbuster Cinemas in Dhaka, and Silver Screen in Chattogram.
The Liberation War-based film received a government grant in the fiscal year 2017-2018. The movie has been produced by Akar Production.
Tahmina Authoi and Shishir Ahmed have played lead characters in the movie. The film also stars Jayanto Chattopadhyay, Tanvir Mashud, Masum Basher, Mili Basher, Lutfor Rahman George, Saika Ahmed, Tanvir Masud and others.
‘Kalbela’ depicts the story of a woman and her survival during the Liberation War. The film also depicts the uncertain journey of the common people, the brutalities of the Pakistani Army and their connections with their allies, and the social unrest that persisted during 1971.
Saidul Anam Tutul started filming ‘Kalbela’ in October 2018. The shooting of the film was mostly done before his demise. Afterward, the post-production of the film was done under the supervision of Saidul Anam’s wife Mobashera Khanam.
The music of ‘Kalbela’ was composed by the late National Award-winning music director Farid Ahmed, who passed away on April 13, 2021.
Saidul Anam Tutul was a prominent drama and film director of the country. He started his career as a film editor. He won Bangladesh National Film Award for Best Editing for the film ‘Surja Dighal Bari’ in (1979). Tutul made his film directorial debut in 2003 with the film ‘Adhiar’. He passed away on December 18, 2018, in Dhaka.
