Covid-19 infected poet Kazi Roji put on life support

Covid-19 infected poet and former MP Kazi Roji has been put on life support at Labaid Hospital in the capital.

Sumi Sikander, daughter of Roji, confirmed the matter on Sunday morning.

Kazi Roji’s brain is not working and there are also some other physical complications including kidney infection, she said.

The poet had been ill for several days and was receiving treatment from her home. On Monday (December 30), she was admitted to the ICU as her condition suddenly worsened after testing positive for Covid-19.

Kazi Roji was born on January 1, 1949 in Satkhira. He obtained his bachelor’s and master’s degrees in Bengali Literature from Dhaka University (DU).

She was elected Member of Parliament for the reserved women’s seat in the 10th National Parliament.

The poet won the Bangla Academy Award in 2016 and Ekushey Padak in 2021 for her special contribution in language and literature.
