10pc VAT being waived in import of edible oil: Commerce Minister

Commerce Minister Tipu Munshi has said 10 percent value-added tax (VAT) is being waived in import of edible oil while 5 percent VAT at consumer level.

At the same time, 15 percent VAT will be waived at the stage of edible oil production.

The commerce minister came up with this information at a press conference  at his secretariat office marking the World Consumer Rights Day-2022 on Monday. 

Earlier in the day, the Cabinet in a meeting directed the National Board of Revenue (NBR) to impose minimum tax on all consumer goods at the import stage.
