70 new dengue patients hospitalised in 24 hours

A total of 56 new dengue patients were admitted to different hospitals in the city while 14 were admitted outside the capital during the past 24 hours (till 8am today).

“Two dengue patients died yesterday (July 19) while the first death from the disease was reported on June 21, this year. The total death from dengue rose to five,” a press release of the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) said.

With the new cases, the total number of dengue patients rose to 1,910 this year while some 1,661 patients were released from the hospitals,” the release added.

 

Dengue fever is a mosquito-borne illness that occurs in tropical and subtropical areas of the world. Outbreak of the disease is usually seasonal, peaking during and after the rainy seasons.

The World Health Organization classifies dengue as one of the top 10 threats to public health.
