Jeweller shot as robbers take away 50 bhori gold in Mymensingh

A jewellery shop owner at Bhaluka in Mymensingh sustained bullet injuries and lost 50 bhories of gold in a daring robbery Wednesday night.

The robbery took place at Prodip Jewellers adjacent to bus stand point of Bhaluka-Gafargaon highway at 9pm.

Adhir Karmakar, owner of the shop, and his brother Sudhir Karmakar were held stage at gunpoint.

 

According to eyewitnesses, a gang of 4-5 armed robbers riding a microbus came to the place. They entered the shop and took all gold at gunpoint.

The robbers shot Adhir Karmakar on his leg following a resistance and fled the spot exploding cocktails.

With critical injuries, Adhir was taken to Upazila Health Complex and later referred to Mymensingh Medical College Hospital.

Several pedestrians were also injured at the incident.

Mymensingh SP Mohammad Ahmar Uzzaman and Model Thana OC Kamal Hossain visited the spot.

Talking to journalists, OC Kamal Hossain said “We have collected evidence and CCTV footage from the shop. Police are trying to arrest the culprits.”
