Six members of a family, including a child, received burn injuries in a fire originated from a gas leak in Keraniganj’s Jinjira Mandail area of Dhaka early Tuesday.

The victims Begum, 60, her daughter Sonia Akter, 26, Sonia’s daughter Mariyam Akter, 8, Begum’s grandchildren Shahadat Hossain, 20, Yasin, 12, and Iduni alias Panna Begum, 50, are now undergoing treatment at Sheikh Hasina National Institute of Burn and Plastic Surgery.

Najmul Hasan Sakib, a friend of injured Shahadat said, “The fire broke out and spread to the ground floor while Brgum lit the gas stove at 5:00am in the area. We rushed to the spot after hearing their screams and rescued them”.

Resident doctor of the Burn Institute Partha Shankar Pal said the condition of the victims are very critical.

Of them, Yasin has been shifted to the intensive care unit (ICU) of the hospital.
