Nanda Gopal Kumar (Suriya), nicknamed NGK, is an environmental engineering graduate who resigns from his job to take up organic farming. He is a do-gooder who always has people’s welfare and best interest in mind. The youngsters of his small-town look up to him as a role model. However, the local politicians envy his reach among the local youth. He lives with his loving parents and a caring but possessive wife (Sai Pallavi). Ultimately a clash between city politicians and NGK erupts. How can NGK achieve a fair share for the less privileged in a corrupted political system? And what role does NGK’s wife play in this political thriller plot?

In a post release interview of NGK, Pallavi states that she has been a long-standing fan of Suriya as an actor and feels that her life has come full circle now after sharing the screen space with him as his wife in NGK. She stated “Suriya sir is a very disciplined actor. He enjoys his craft, and I admire him a lot for his dedication as a co-actor. There were specific sequences where I used to cry if I went for multiple takes. I cried like a baby on the third day of the shoot. But, Suriya sir would perform with the same level of enthusiasm and conviction even if he goes for so many takes. There were occasions when Suriya sir went out of his way to make me comfortable.”
“NGK” was released in theaters on May 31, 2019. Popular streaming platform Amazon Prime released the movie in Tamil on July 5, 2019, on their OTT platform. It is the first Tamil movie released in South Korea and Japan. When the first poster of the movie NGK was released, it was rumored that the revolutionary Che Guevara inspired his design.
