A case has been filed against 170 BNP men in connection with the vandalism of Khulna railway station during the violent clashes between policemen and BNP supporters on Saturday.

Railway station master Manik Chandra Sarkar filed this case on Saturday night.

Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Khulna Railway Police Station Mollah Md. Khabir Ahmed confirmed the news.

Earlier on Saturday afternoon, BNP activists went on rampage and vandalised door glasses, windowpanes and other valuables at the railway station.

They committed the vandalism at the noon when police chased them on their arrival at the rail station to join the rally, witnesses said.

A chase and a counter-chase took place between police and BNP activists, causing panic.

“BNP leaders and activists were chased by police at the Khulna railway station at noon,” many a witness said.

In the face of police chase, the party activists turned agitated and threw brickbats at policemen. They broke door glasses at the station.

BNP men from different areas gathered on the railway station premises around 12pm.

At that time, police tried to drive them away from the station, triggering a clash.

Police also charged batons on BNP activists to disperse them, witnesses said.

Manik Sarkar, manager of Khulna Railway Station, said, “BNP leaders and activists hurled brickbats at policemen.”

“During the clash, glasses of doors, windowpanes and main gate were vandalised. The clash lasted for about half an hour,” he added.
