Jewellers in Feni formed human chain and held rallies protesting against killing of fellow trader Arjun Vaduri and demanding arrest of the killers.

Owners of jewellery shops in five upazilas under the district registered the protests on Sunday.

Earlier, on October 30, a group of unidentified dacoits stabbed Arjun Vaduri at his jewellery shop and snatched cash and gold ornaments.

After 11 days of receiving injuries, Arjun died at the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) of a hospital in port city Chattogram on Friday.

Feni unit of Bangladesh Jewellers’ Association (BAJUS) organised the human chain at Trunk Road in the city.

Ismail Hossain Khokon, president of Feni unit of BAJUS, presided over the human chain while Golam Faruk Bachchu, general secretary of the unit, moderated it. Leaders of the organisation and gold traders of the district joined the protest rally.

Parshuram  Upazila Parishad chairman Kamal Ahmed Majumder, Bangladesh Hindu Buddhist Christian Oikya Parishad president Sukdev Nath were also present.

Speaking at the human chain, BAJUS leaders and jewellers said the dacoits took away ornaments and money hitting the owner but police could not arrest the culprits in 13 days into the incident.

If the killers of Arjun Vaduri are not arrested soon, the jewellers will go for tougher movement, they said.

Earlier, BAJUS announced closure of jewellery shops in Feni from 6:00am to 12:00pm protesting killing of the jeweller.
