Excessive pressure of transportation, road accidents and reckless driving caused a 14-kilometer gridlock on Dhaka-Tangail-Bangabandhu Bridge.

The traffic jam has been created from eastern side of Bangabandhu Bridge or Jamuna Multi-purpose Bridge from early Saturday and stretched to Elenga of Kalihati upazila in Tangail.

The traffic congestion caused immense sufferings to the people who are heading towards their destination.

Safikul Islam, officer-in-charge of eastern side of Bangabandhu Bridge, said a pickup van turned turtle in Kamakhya intersection area of the bridge at 1:00am on Friday night.

Around one hour was needed to remove the pickup van from the area. Apart from this, excess pressure of transportation caused severe gridlock, he said.

In addition, traffic jam has also increased due to reckless driving of the drivers. Police are working to normalise the situation soon, the OC added.
