With the forthcoming Asia Cup and the ICC World Cup in mind the Bangladesh Cricket Board on Friday named Shakib Al Hasan as their one-day international captain to fill the shoes of Tamim Iqbal.
Although the declaration was expected on August 12 along with the squad for the Asia Cup, the deadline was as per the Asian Cricket Council [ACC] directives, however, BCB president Nazmul Hasan notified it earlier in the day.
‘Of course the captain is Shakib Al Hasan, and for all three formats,’ the BCB boss told the media at his residence.
He further affirmed that he is set to have a chat with Shakib following his return from the ongoing edition of the Lanka Premier League to know whether he will be available as the national team captain for the long term or not.
‘Shakib would be leading Bangladesh both in the New Zealand series, the Asia Cup, and the World Cup. However, we are looking for a long-term captain. So let him come back first from the LPL; subsequently, we would hold a meeting to know whether he is ready to lead long-term or not.’
