A leader of the Juba League, the youth front of the ruling Awami League, was shot to death by unidentified assailants at village Panchkari under Manirampur upazila in Jashore district Monday morning.

The deceased, Uday Shankar Biswas, 42, of village Panchkari was the convener of Nehalpur union unit of Juba League and a lecturer of Nehalpur School and College.

He was also the president of a high school managing committee in his area.

Locals said that a group of miscreants shot Uday from the back at the local market at about 7:30am and fled the scene leaving him dead on the spot.

Manirampur police station inspector Gazi Md Mahbububur Rahman said that they reached the spot and were investigating the matter.

None was arrested so far and the reason behind the murder could not be known immediately, he said.
