Polling centre among two schools set on fire in Gazipur city

Unidentified miscreants set fire to two schools in separate places in Gazipur city early Saturday.

Police and locals said that one of the schools was set to be used as a polling centre in Bangladesh’s next national election slated for Sunday.

 

Abdullah Al Arefin, deputy assistant director of Gazipur Fire Service and Civil Defence, said that miscreants set fire to TNT Ideal High School at Telipara at about 2:45am.

On information, two firefighting units rushed to the spot and doused the blaze.

Seven classrooms, an office and educational materials were burnt in the fire. The school is not a polling centre.

Meanwhile, a group of miscreants set fire to a polling centre, East Chandana Government Primary School in Bason area of the city, at about 1:30 am.

On information, a firefighting unit rushed to the spot and extinguished the blaze.

The schools miscreants set fire to were, however, not selected as polling stations.

Earlier on Friday and Thursday night, at least five polling centres were set on fire in Rajshahi and Feni districts.
