He started his acting career by acting in plays in his college life, but he stood in front of the camera for the first time on 24 June 1972 for the movie “Amar Jonmobhumi” directed by Alamgir Kumkum. But, he rose to fame through his second film ‘Dasshu Rani’ where he acted alongside famed actress Shabana.
Since then, Alamgir has acted my timeless film. The actor won Bangladesh National Film Award for Best Actor a record seven times for his roles in the films, “Ma O Chhele” in 1985, “Apeksha” in 1987, “Khotipuron” in 1989, “Moroner Pore” in 1990, “Pita Mata Santan” in 1991, “Andha Biswas” in 1992 and “Desh Premik” in 1994. Besides, he earned Best Supporting Actor award for the films, “Bhalobaslei Ghor Bandha Jay Na” in 2010 and “Ke Apon Ke Por” in 2011.
Alamgir has also worked in television dramas and also as a presenter. In 1986, he made his directorial debut with the film “Nishpap”. Alamgir was the host of the game show Houseful on Maasranga Television.
