The detective branch of Dhaka Metropolitan Police said on Sunday that it would seek Interpol’s assistance to bring Akhtaruzzaman Shaheen, the alleged mastermind behind the murder of Jhenaidah-4 lawmaker Anwarul Azim Anar, back to Bangladesh.
Shaheen reportedly fled to the United States after the murder, and an official request would be made through the Inspector General of Police to bring Shaheen back to Bangladesh, DMP DB chief Harun-or-Rashid said.
He made the remarks while addressing the media at Shahjalal International Airport Sunday morning.
‘We have already sent a request to the IGP over the issue,’ he said.
The DB chief revealed that investigations by the detectives in both Kolkata and Dhaka confirmed Shaheen’s involvement in the murder.
Harun said that a three-member team led by himself was leaving Dhaka for Kolkata on Sunday morning for further investigation into the murder case.
The DB chief said that it was very important to visit the crime scene in Kolakata for the investigation.
After visiting the spot, the team would interrogate Jihad Hawladar, who was arrested in India, Harun added.
