Singer, songwriter and music composer Khayam Sanu Sandhi thinks that the role of background musicians in productions is so crucial that if their work is not executed accurately, the entire production suffers.
‘Being in the spotlight is not possible for a background musician. But the role of background musicians in productions is crucial. If his work is not executed accurately, the entire production suffers,’ Khayam Sanu Sandhi told New Age.
Recently, Sandhi has worked as a background musician for a good number of productions, including ‘Syndicate’, ‘Myself Allen Swapan’, ‘Mayashalik’ and ‘Kacher Manush Dure Thuiya’.
Speaking about the productions, he said, ‘I have had great pleasure working in those productions. After the release of the productions, people from both home and abroad sought out my name and told me that they adored my work. All these things actually make a musician more passionate about work.’
A production revolving around a couple in long-distance relationships, ‘Kacher Manush Dure Thuiya’, portrays distance stresses relationship and causes pain, doubt, mistrust, anger and resentment.
Apart from working as a background musician, the singer-songwriter also composed the title track penned by Shomeshwar Oli and rendered by Majharul Mikat.
‘Ultimately, the relationship leads to separation before emotional reunion. I have greatly enjoyed working in the production,’ he shared.
Although Sandhi learnt all genres of music, he had a prodigious interest in Nazrul Sangeet. He had also composed the song titled Cup Kintu Ektai for Cricket World Cup in 2011.
He has been regularly recording songs from 2018, but was not prepared to release those songs. He mentioned, ‘Earlier, I have released four songs out of the 12 songs I have prepared. As I have tidied up my channel on Spotify, iTunes and other online platforms, I am looking forward to releasing one song every three month.’
Sandhi garnered acclaim for his songs titled ‘Ami Tomay Na Dekhi’, ‘Bolte Chai’, ‘Tomake’, ‘Ekta Golpo Boli’, ‘Powder’, ‘Pother Gaan’ and ‘Toi Toi Toi Boyam Pakhi Koi’.
In 2011 and 2012, Sandhi worked on two radio musical projects – the first ‘radio musical’ in Bangladesh – under the headers ‘Bhalobasi Tomake 1 and 2’.
Using guitar, ektara, dotara, sitar, he created fusion and experimental music in those song, experimented with genres from punk rock, romantic ballad, folk groove to Indian classical.
He also spoke about his upcoming ventures.
‘In Eid-ul-Azha, I am looking forward to releasing a song titled Majhe Majhe on my YouTube channel. I also have lent my voice with Masha Islam to the song titled Tomake Chai for a Chorki production. Besides, I have composed the music for Shihab Shaheen directorial venture “Golam Mamun”, which will be released on Hoichoi,’ Khayam Sanu Sandhi concluded.
