While summer in Bangladesh is often celebrated for its abundance of juicy fruits and diverse fishes, there is another aspect that deserves equal attention – the breathtaking display of seasonal flowers.

These vibrant blooms, adorning tall trees across the country, offer a visual feast that rivals any other summer feature. From the fiery Krishnachura to the charming Jarul and the chandelier-like Sonalu, each flower adds its own touch of magic to the Bangladeshi summer landscape.

Some other prominent flowers of this time of the year are Radhachura, Kanakchura, Nagalingam, Hijol, Bonak, Udla, Lemon, Ghasphul, and Jasmine.

While going around the breathtaking flowers, people get fascinated for a while as the flowers provide them with the opportunity to rejoice in the blessings of nature.

Despite the fact that all the summer flowers are not available in Dhaka owing to the scarcity of free space, if anyone pays a visit to Ramna Park, Dhaka University campus, Chandrima Udyan, the street beside the National Parliament, Baldha Garden in Old Town, and Botanical Garden in Mirpur, different types of summer flowers that have already bloomed there would make the person happy with their gorgeous look.

For the past few years, Krishnachuras in Dhaka have been showing a late bloom – after the first few swathes of rain in the monsoon. But this year, they are here relatively early.

The bloom is still young at Dhaka University, on the road beside the National Parliament and Chandrima Udyan, but the beauty of the flowers wouldn’t fail to mesmerise anyone.

Radhachura and Kanakchura are two intimate flowers of summer that are available in Ramna Park. Though they are similar in terms of the formation of leaves, the trees are altogether different.

The tubular, golden yellow flowers hang downward like bells. One part of the petal is upside down, and the tip of the stamen is blackish. The flowers bloom serially from top to bottom.

With wide, long, and deep green leaves and bright violet petals, the blue beauty of Jarul is charming. In Dhaka, it can be seen in front of Rokeya Hall, on the north of the VC’s residence at Dhaka University, and in Ramna Park and Suhrawardy Udyan.

Another amazing summer flower is Sonalu. The yellow flower does not grow in large bunches or fills up its entire space. The trick is to look at it from right underneath, for then it becomes a chandelier of many layers, each yellow bud replacing a light.

Thus, it is like a precisely beautiful composition. Sonalu flowers are available near the Osmani Memorial Auditorium and in the National Parliament area in the capital.

The Nagalingam blooms mainly in April and May and lives for over two months. The branches with flower clusters grow directly out of the tree. The flower can be seen in Baldha Garden and the Botanical Garden in Dhaka.
