Members of the Bangladesh Ansar and Village Defence Party on Sunday morning blocked the road in front of the Supreme Court main gate in Dhaka demanding the regularisation of their jobs.
They said that if their one-point demand was not met, they would start a strike for an indefinite period.
‘We do not get paid during the six-month leave every three years. Sometimes the leave continues for more than one year without salary and ration facilities,’ Abdul Hanan, an Ansar member said.
Vehicular movement in the area came to a halt as the road was blocked at about 11:30pm.
Swapan Mia, an Ansar member, said that each Ansar member got paid Tk 535 on a daily basis as a salary.
‘If they don’t work, they will not get a salary,’ he said.
