The interim government removed all members of 64 zila parishads, chairmen and members of 493 upazila parishads, and chairmen and vice-chairmen and 323 municipalities’ mayors across the country from their chair on Monday.

The local government division in separate gazette notifications removed them from their posts and appointed administrators.

Deputy secretary Mohammad Shafiul Alam singed gazette stated that all the zila parishad chairmen and members were removed under the section of 10 Kha of the Zila Parishad (Amendment) Ordinance, 2024. Except three districts in the hill, the government appointed administrators in another order.

In another notification signed by the deputy secretary Akbar Hossain, the government removed all 493 upazila parishad chairmen and other vice-chairmen under the sector 13 Gha of the Upazila Parishad (Amendment) Ordinance 2024.

The government also appointed administrators to the vacant posts.

Municipal mayors of 323 municipalities across the country were removed in a gazette notification signed by deputy secretary of the local government division Md Mahbub Alam.

The notification stated that the mayors were removed under section 32 Ka of the Local Government (Municipality) Amendment Ordinance 2024. In another notification the government appointed administrator in the posts.
