The National Board of Revenue (NBR) has instructed banks to unfreeze the bank accounts of businessman Abdul Awal Mintoo and his family members after 17 years of being blocked.
The NBR’s Central Intelligence Cell (CIC) ordered banks to freeze the accounts Mintoo, his spouse Nasreen Awal Mintoo and his son Tabith Awal on 1 August in 2007.
The NBR issued the order based on recommendation of a panel formed during the then Army-backed caretaker government.
Meanwhile, Sponsor Directors Abdul Awal Mintoo was unanimously elected as chairman of National Bank on 22 August.
It follows the dissolution of the previous Board of Directors by Bangladesh Bank on 20 August 2024, and the formation of a new board under the Bank-Company Act, 1991 (Amended up to 2023).
Mintoo is a prominent industrialist and business leader in Bangladesh.
He is a former president of the Federation of Bangladesh Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FBCCI) and incumbent vice chairman of BNP.
