Upholding the sanctity of each and every life, adviser to the interim government on ICT affairs Md Nahid Islam has reiterated that alongside dispensing justice for every murder, it will be ensured that all the injured receive free treatment.
Nahid said this while meeting with the families of Mamun, Julan Chakma, and Rubel Tripura — who were all killed on Thursday in and around Naran Khaiya, Shonirbhar area. The meeting took place on Sunday at the Khagrachhari Circuit House.
During the meeting, the families of the victims demanded justice for the killings and requested government assistance through the adviser.
‘There will be justice for every murder. Those involved in these crimes will be brought to justice. No one has the right to take the law into their own hands,’ Nahid repeated, at regular intervals throughout the approximately 40-minute interview.
The adviser also promised financial support for the victims’ families and assured them of assistance whenever needed.
He urged the families not to panic, stressing that this incident should not be used to fuel divisions between the indigenous population and Bengali settlers. He urged everyone not to exploit the incident to lead anyone astray, and down the path towards extremism.
Nahid further emphasised that all communities in Bangladesh had equal rights and warned that attempts were being made to incite conflict between the two groups. He urged everyone to remain vigilant.
Senior officials from Khagrachhari district administration were present during the meeting.
