Abnormally low voter turnout is normal: Mahbub Talukder

Election Commissioner Mahbub Talukder on Tuesday said, “Abnormally low voter turnout in the recently-concluded Dhaka city corporation elections is normal.”
“I think this trend (low voter turnout) is normal. It might be considered as a bad signal for democracy. But it is a reality in the present context. People are indifferent to election or voting. Therefore, the reality can’t be rationalised by giving various interpretation or misinterpretation,” he said.
The Election Commissioner came up with the remark while talking to reporters at the Nirbachan Bhaban in Agargaon of the capital.
