There will be no adverse impact on Bangladesh, regardless of who comes to power in the United States, said Debapriya Bhattacharya, a macro-economist and public policy analyst, on Wednesday.

Debapriya, head of the committee responsible for preparing the White Paper on the State of Bangladesh’s Economy, made the remarks when Republican leader Donald Trump is on the verge of win in the just concluded US election.

“We don’t have much to worry about, regardless of who comes to power in the US. The relationship with the US is not solely dependent on any one political party,” he said while addressing a programme at American Centre in Dhaka.

There are many factors, including trade, commerce, strategy and geopolitics those determine a friendly relationship with the US, said Debapriya, who is also a distinguished fellow at the Centre for Policy Dialogue (CPD).

Earlier on 2 November, Chief Adviser’s Press Secretary Shafiqul Alam said the results of the US election will not pose any challenge to the relations that the two countries maintain.

Chief Adviser Prof Muhammad Yunus, as a global leader, maintains strong ties with senior leaders of both the Republican and Democratic parties in the US, he said.
