‘Ityadi’-famed singer Akbar Ali Gazi, commonly known by his stage name Akbar, passed away at a hospital on Sunday afternoon.
The singer breathed his last at capital’s Bangladesh Institute of Research and Rehabilitation in Diabetes, Endocrine and Metabolic Disorders (BIRDEM) hospital while undergoing treatment.
Akbar’s daughter Athoi confirmed the news to media.
Akbar has been suffering from diabetes, kidney disease, liver disease and other complications since 2017.
His right leg amputated due to health complications on October 16.
Akbar came into the limelight after performing at popular programme ‘Ityadi’ in 2003, where he rendered the song ‘Ekdin Pakhi Ure Jabe Je Akashe’. Before his TV appearance, he was making a living as a rickshaw puller.
