The market for essential goods remains unstable, with the prices of various products continually rising, creating a crisis for consumers. Despite the government’s orders for strict market monitoring, the influence of syndicates remains unabated. Experts said that hoarders are creating artificial shortages to drive up the prices of consumer goods.
Visiting different kitchen markets at Mirpur 6, 11, 12, Shewrapara and Mohammadpur on Friday, it was seen that the price of green chilli has increased by Tk80 and was sold at Tk240 per kg.
Traders attributed that domestic production of green chilli has reduced to this price increase of this essential.
Nasim Uddin, a vegetable trader at Mirpur 13 kitchen market said the green chilli market has been unstable for the last three weeks.
The retail price of green chilli was Tk80 per kg on 3 May, Tk120 per kg on 10 May and Tk140-160 per kg on 17 May, according to market sources.
