The market for essential goods remains unstable, with the prices of various products continually rising, creating a crisis for consumers. Despite the government’s orders for strict market monitoring, the influence of syndicates remains unabated. Experts said that hoarders are creating artificial shortages to drive up the prices of consumer goods.

Visiting different kitchen markets at Mirpur 6, 11, 12, Shewrapara and Mohammadpur on Friday, it was seen that the price of green chilli has increased by Tk80 and was sold at Tk240 per kg.
Traders attributed that domestic production of green chilli has reduced to this price increase of this essential.

Nasim Uddin, a vegetable trader at Mirpur 13 kitchen market said the green chilli market has been unstable for the last three weeks.
The retail price of green chilli was Tk80 per kg on 3 May, Tk120 per kg on 10 May and Tk140-160 per kg on 17 May, according to market sources.

The price of farm eggs was retailing at Tk150 per dozen on the day. Farm egg was retailed at Tk120 per dozen in the previous month.
The beef was sold at Tk650-780 per kg and mutton was sold at Tk1,050- 1,100 per kg.
The price of most of the vegetables was also high at the kitchen market on the day.

Brinjal was retailing at Tk70-100 per kg, bitter gourd was Tk80 per kg, pointed gourd was Tk60 per kg, okra was Tk50 per kg, yardlong bean was Tk100 per kg, cucumber was Tk60 per kg, gourd was Tk50-60 per piece, green papaya was Tk80 per kg, sponge gourd was Tk60 per kg and ribbed gourd was Tk80 per kg.
Cauliflower was retailing at Tk40-50 per piece, cabbage was Tk50 per piece, tomato was Tk50-60 per kg, carrot was Tk80 per kg, local onion was Tk75-80 per kg and potato was Tk55 per kg.
Green chilli import starts through Hili port

Meanwhile, the import of green chilli has started through Hili port after six months, reports BSS.
A green chilli-laden truck entered Bangladesh through the port at 8:30pm on Thursday, said Mahabub Hossain, import-export representative of Hili port.
He said A Asha Banijjaloy imported the green chilli.
