Dhaka Medical College Hospital neurosurgery department physician Abdul Ahad at a media briefing on Sunday afternoon declared complete shutdown of healthcare service at all hospitals across the country.
He said that the shutdown would continue until their Safety in hospitals was ensured.
DMCH physicians and nurses started observing work abstention for an indefinite period on Sunday, flowing an attack on them on Saturday.
The healthcare providers threatened to observe compete suspension of service across the country if their demand for safety at workplace was not met immediately.
A group of physicians and nurses came up with the declaration since at least 15 of their fellows were assaulted at DMCH on Saturday evening following the death of a road accident patient.
Physician Shariful Alam Shakil said that not only the latest incident, physicians become easy target of attacks by miscreants and relatives of patients in every corner of the country.
‘We want safe workplace,’ he said.
He said that on Saturday a group of 50 to 60 outsiders attacked doctors and nurses at the hospital, but no security measures were there.
He said that several patients and their relatives were also injured in the incident.
DMCH authority and government high ups are holding negotiations with the demonstrating doctors and nurses.
