Corona situation in capital worsening gradually

The corona situation in the capital is worsening day by day as the virus is spreading everywhere.

Till Monday, corona patients were detected in 186 spots in the city. Of the spots, more than 200 patients were found in five areas.

Meanwhile, more twenty-one corona patients died in the last 24 hours. With the deaths, a total of 349 people have died of coronavirus so far in the country. Some 1,602 people have been infected with virus in the last 24 hours.

The number of corona infected people in the country now stands at 23, 870. Of them, 57.38 percent patients are from Dhaka.

As per the report of the Institute of Epidemiology, Disease Control and Research (IEDCR), till May 17(Sunday), corona patients were found in 186 spots in the city. Of the areas, there are at least 50 to 298 patients in 31 areas in Dhaka. In five areas of the capital, there are 200 corona patients. Of the areas, there are maximum 298 patients in Kakrail.

In addition, there are 242 patients in Jatrabari, 235 in Mohakhali, 213 in Mohammadpur and 206 in Razarbagh.

There are corona patients in other eight areas in the city. Of the spots, 198 in Mugda, 150 in Tejgaon, 125 Moghbazar, 122 in Lalbagh,117 in Babubazar, 114 in Malibagh, 111 in Uttara and 106 in Dhanmondi.

More than 50 patients are in 18 areas in Dhaka. Of the areas, 78 in Agargaon, 97 in Badda, 58 in Banani, 84 in Bongshal, 65 in Bashabo, 70 in Chalkbazar, 77 in Gendaria, 68 in Gulshan, 65 in Hazaribagh, 86 in Khilgaon, 83 in Mirpur, 58 in Mirpur-1, 60 in Rampura, 50 in Ramna, 73 in Shahbagh, 70 in Shamoli, 50 in Shamibagh and 71 in Wari.

Prof Nasima Sultana, who is now serving as the director general of the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) said, “Many abroad returnees live in Dhaka. A number of expatriates, who are the residents outside of Dhaka, stayed in Dhaka returning from foreign countries. We assume that the virus spread through their contact.”
