Rana Plaza owner’s father Abdul Khaleq dies of COVID-19

Abdul Khaleq, father of Sohel Rana, owner of Rana Plaza that collapsed in Savar of Dhaka in 2013 and resulted in deaths of 1133 people, has died after being infected with COVID-19. He was 60.

Abdul Khaleq died in the early morning on Thursday.

Savar Upazila health and family planning officer Saimul Huda said the authorities of Enam Medical College and Hospital confirmed it that Abdul Khaleq was tested for coronavirus positive.

The relatives of Khaleq said Rana’s father Abdul Khaleq was taken to Enam Medical College and Hospital for treatment on Sunday as he suffered from respiratory complication. But the authorities of the hospital advised them to test him for coronavirus instead of admitting to hospital. On Monday last, the sample of Khaleq was collected there. But he died in the early morning today before getting the test result. Later his result was found and he had coronavirus positive.
