The National Board of Revenue (NBR) has frozen all the personal and institutional bank accounts of Regent Hospital Chairman Md Shahed, JKG Health Care Chairman Dr Sabrina Arif Chowdhury and CEO Ariful Chowdhury for their alleged involvement in providing fake Coronavirus test reports and certificates.

The Central Intelligence Cell (CIC) of the NBR gave such directive on Sunday to all banks to freeze all the personal, institutions and joint bank accounts related to these accused persons.

Director General of CIC Alamgir Hossain told BSS that apart from freezing the related bank accounts of these persons, the concerned banks have also been asked to give the transaction history of all the personal, institutional and joint accounts of these persons within seven days.

NBR officials said they would look into the bank transaction records and information on tax files of these persons and institutions over the last five years.

If there is any inconsistency, then action will be taken against them as per the existing Income Tax Act.

The RAB has already filed a case against 17 individuals including Regent Hospital Chairman Md Shahed for committing cheat with the COVID-19 infected patients.

Besides, Uttara and Mirpur branches of the hospital have been closed down while some officials and employees of the facility have been arrested.

Meanwhile, the law enforcement agencies also arrested Dr Sabrina for providing fake COVID-19 test reports and certificates from the JKG Health Care.
