Prof Abul Hossain Khan Chowdhury, former director of National Institute of Cardiovascular Diseases (NICVD), died of Covid-19 at a private hospital in the capital on Saturday morning.
He breathed his last at around 10:15am at the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) of Square Hospital while undergoing treatment.
Confirming the news, Mily Dey, director of Bangladesh Doctors Foundation (BDF) Trust said that Abul Hossain was a 29th batch student of Dhaka Medical College.
With the demise of Abul Hossain, at least 68 physicians have so far died after being diagnosed with the infection, while 10 others passed away showing symptoms, Dr Rahat Anwer Choudhury, joint secretary of the Foundation for Doctor’s Safety and Rights (FDSR) said.
On the other hand, BDF said the number of doctors who died of Covid-19 is 72, while 11 others died showing symptoms.
