A Dhaka court on Thursday granted bail to Prothom Alo Associate Editor Anisul Hoque and five others in a case filed over the death of Dhaka Residential Model College student Naimul Abrar Rahat.
Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Mohammed Jashim issued the order after they surrendered before the court and sought bail.
Earlier on Wednesday, the court ordered the authorities concerned to confiscate the properties of Prothom Alo Associate Editor Anisul Hoque and four others in a case filed over the death of Abrar Rahat.
Four other accused are Mahitul Alam, senior assistant editor of Kishor Alo, Kabir Bakul, head of events and activation, and Shah Paran Tushar and Shuvashish Pramanik, assistants of the events of the magazine.
Dhaka Residential Model College student Naimul Abrar Rahat was electrocuted in a programme organised by Prothom Alo’s youth magazine ‘Kishor Alo’ on the school campus on November 2, 2019.
On November 6, the victim’s father, Mujibur Rahman, filed the case with Dhaka Chief Metropolitan Magistrate’s Court, accusing Anisul and some others over the incident.
Prothom Alo Editor Matiur Rahman and some other accused secured bail in the case.
On January 16, Inspector Abdul Alim of Mohammadpur Police Station submitted a charge sheet accusing 10 persons of negligence which led to Abrar’s death.
