Three separate committees have been formed to look into the cause of air-conditioner blasts at a mosque in Narayanganj’s Fatullah which has claimed 14 lives so far
The Bangladesh Fire Service and Civil Defence, state gas transmission and distribution agency Titas and the district administration of Narayanganj each formed a committee to investigate the explosions.
Narayanganj district administration formed a five-member committee led by district magistrate Khadiza Tahera Boby.
The committee has been asked to submit the investigation report within five working days.
Meanwhile, DC office has announced that it would give Tk 20,000 to the family of each dead for burial and Tk 10,000 for treatment of each victim.
Fourteen people were killed in a mysterious blast in a mosque in Fatullah of Narayanganj on Friday.
Twelve of the deceased were identified as Jewel, 7, Rashed, 30, Rifat,18, Mostafa Kamal, 34, Zubair, 18, Sabbir, 21, Kuddus Bepari, 72 Delwar Hossain, 48, Zunayed, 17, Humayun Kabir, 70, Ibrahim,43 and Jamal, 40.
Some 40 people suffered burn injuries as all the air conditioners of the mosque exploded during Esha prayers in Fatullah, Narayanganj on Friday night. One of the injured died at night.
Locals said the incident took place around 8:45 pm at Baitus Salam Mosque when the devotees had just finished their prayers. An air conditioner went off and sparked a fire inside the mosque. Later, the remaining six ACs exploded there, leaving the 40 devotees injured.
