Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) seized 60,000 pieces of Yaba tablets worth Tk 1.80 crore and arrested a man from Teknaf upazila of Cox’s Bazar early Saturday.
The arrestee was identified as Md Helal Uddin, 26, son of Jalal Ahmed, hailing from Kharangkhali village of Teknaf upazila in the district.
Tipped off that a large consignment of Yaba from Myanmar was entering into Bangladesh’s territory, a BGB team took position at sluice gate no 5 of Gimbongkhali area, Lieutenant Colonel Foysal Hasan Khan, commanding officer of BGB-2 said.
Later in the night, when three people entered into Bangladesh, the BGB men challenged them.
In response, the smugglers tried to fled away but the law enforces nabbed one of them with a plastic sack, he said.
Later, sixty thousand pieces of Yaba tablets were recovered from the sack, he added.
