Police recovered the dead bodies of a woman and her two children from a pond near their house at Dharmoghar Bharnia village in Ranisankail upazila of Thakurgaon on Thursday morning.

The deceased were identified as Ariza Kahtun, 32, wife of Akbar Ali, their daughter Akhlima Akhtar Akhi, 10 and son Arafat Ahmmed, 4, hailing from Shialdangi village of the upazila.

According to local sources, Ariza Khatun locked in an altercation with her husband Akbar Ali on Wednesday evening. At one sage of altercation, Akbar asked Ariza to leave his house. Later on Thursday morning, Akbar’s father Sirajul Islam, on his way home from the field, spotted their floating bodies in a nearby pond and rescued them with the help of locals.

The real cause of the incident could not be known immediately but investigation is underway to unearth the reason behind their death, Iqbal Hossain, officer-in-charge (OC) of Ranishankail Police Station, said.
